Maysan gas project targets 70 million cubic feet a day as sulphur-recovery requirements reviewed

The Oil Ministry’s implementation meeting focused on gas from Buzurgan, Fakka and Abu Gharb for electricity generation.

Iraq’s Ministry of Oil is seeking to accelerate a project targeting 70 million standard cubic feet of associated gas a day from three Maysan fields. NINA’s 13 October account of a ministry statement identifies Buzurgan, Fakka and Abu Gharb as the sources and electricity generation as the intended use.

Sulphur-recovery unit requirements were a specific focus of the implementation meeting. The ministry called for coordination among Missan Oil Company, Oil Pipelines Company, Maysan Energy Company and the field operator, including use of available equipment and facilities.

The statement does not specify an equipment supplier, contract value or commissioning date. The 70-million figure remains a project target, not reported operating throughput.
