JICA considers household solar financing model for Iraq

Talks with the Electricity Ministry covered solar projects, grid connections and a possible household financing scheme; no lending facility has been announced.

Japan International Cooperation Agency representatives intend to study financing for household solar systems in Iraq, according to the Electricity Ministry’s account of talks reported by NINA on 13 October. The proposed study would consider a model similar to the Central Bank of Iraq’s renewable-energy initiative.

The discussions also covered the ministry’s solar project pipeline, contracting arrangements and connections to the national grid. JICA expressed interest in financing and implementing projects within the ministry’s plan.

The household scheme remains at the study stage. The account announces no approved financing amount, participating banks, borrower terms or application date.
