Safaa Al-Jabri, an Al-Sadiqoun MP and member of parliament’s economic committee, said officials were discussing a redesign of Iraq’s currency involving the removal of three zeros, Iraqi News reported on 6 October.
His account placed the discussions between the Prime Minister’s Office and the Central Bank of Iraq, with the authority to approve implementation still under legal review. It supplied no adopted conversion rules, banknote-exchange schedule or implementation date.
The same interview discussed a proposed exchange-rate change. That part of the account has since been overtaken by the central bank’s reported 7 October schedule, including a public selling rate of 1,520 dinars per dollar. Changing the dollar rate and redenominating the currency are separate measures; the reported rate decision does not establish approval of the zero-removal proposal.
