EIA’s Iraq brief separates power imports from imported gas

The July 2025 country analysis is a useful terminology and energy-balance baseline, with older observations and planned milestones.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s July 2025 Iraq country brief describes electricity production in federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, available supply, demand and regional connections. It distinguishes electricity imported across a border from electricity generated in Iraq using imported Iranian gas.

That distinction matters for measuring dependence: a fuel import may support domestic generation without appearing as a direct power import. The brief also lists existing and planned interconnections and solar projects, which need separate status checks before planned capacity is counted as operating supply.

Much of the brief’s observed electricity data concerns 2023–24, while some 2025 items were prospective when written. It is a baseline for definitions and comparisons, not a current October 2026 dispatch report.
