Coalition members announce over $75 million in Iraq and Syria support commitments

The Rome meeting covered counterterrorism capacity, detention services and support for displaced populations; no country allocation was disclosed.

Members of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS announced commitments exceeding $75 million at a meeting in Rome on 1 October, according to a US State Department media note issued the following day.

Italy and the United States co-chaired the meeting. Participants discussed continued cooperation with Iraq and Syria following the end of Operation Inherent Resolve’s mandate in Iraq, emphasising national institutions and capacity to prevent an ISIS resurgence.

The commitments cover Syrian counterterrorism needs and detention capacity, health, sanitation and support for displaced and detained populations across Iraq and Syria. The note does not identify individual donors or divide the total between the countries. It records commitments, rather than confirmed disbursements.
